Love Baked In

I made the green bean casserole for Easter dinner. Not the condensed soup kind, the America's Test Kitchen gourmet kind. Lots of work, lots of pans, 2 cups of heavy cream. I don't think anyone likes it better than the canned green bean, mushroom soup mixture. My beans were still crispy and when my dad bit into one he shot bean juice into Mary's eye. That definitely wouldn't happen with the mushy kind.

I did greatly enjoy making these beans. It was an intricate, multi-step process. Very satisfying really. But that doesn't mean people like them any better!

Easter was lovely. I sang all the hymns even though they required me to sing in a screechy mezzo soprano. Who can really complain about singing, "Jesus Christ is risen today, A-a-a-a-aaaa-lea-lu-u-ia?" You can't help but smile through that hymn. I took beans and wine to my sister and brother-in-law's house and was charmed by their beautiful, innocent and boisterous girls. My parents came to share the meal as did my daughter. I left full and happy.

There was light.
