Share and Shares Alike

I should publish a photo with this blog but won't. Just want to get something up and my daughter's blog inspired me to tell you about my crop shares. I pick up a wonderful box of certified organic vegetables every Friday from the Edina Cooks of Crocus Hill. In it I often find vegies I have never seen before. There have been two helpings of garlic scapes. They are curly-q, chive-like stalks with pointy garlic bulbs on them. You can saute these delicious little aliens as a side and they are very good.

So far I've eaten beets and beet greens, spinruts (turnips spelled backwards because the farmer says they taste better that way), arugula, dutch cucumber, oregano, mint, Italian parsley, cilantro, broccoli, all kinds of salad greens, fennel, bok choy, and more. It's healthy and I must admit I feel rather smug when I waltz into Cooks to pick up my box. I feel as though I'm doing something special, something better, something good, for me and others.

Next year I'm going to get the fruit shares too.

I am at the lake and was just thinking of you and food as I am making a grocery list to prepare the salmon recipe you made when up here. I hope my Swedish cousins like it...they are not as adventuresome with food as you!
