Trying to Keep the Gratitude Flowing

I haven't blogging in a coon's age. Do you ever wonder about that expression? I do too. I will have to explore that. The reason I haven't blogged is because I have been working. Yes, amazing isn't it. Working. Working. Working. And more working. And the fruits of my labor have been extremely disappointing. I have basically been pelted by rotten fruit - tomatoes and melons - at every turn.

In my line of biz, marketing communications, events, meetings, clients hire you to be a slave and a scapegoat. I have been both in the last couple of weeks. Clocking 80-hour weeks, traveling to the client site, enduring mean-spirited and sometimes nasty email and voicemail, never, never, never getting a thanks. Well there was one from a senior executive as I was kneeling on the floor taping up boxes.

I had a meltdown this weekend. I felt abused and unappreciated. My golf game seemed the perfect metaphor for my life. Hack, hack, hack. I picked up my ball a couple of times but for the most part I just kept swinging, occasionally (very occasionally) connecting with the ball. Maybe this is the best anyone can expect?

Actually, there have been a few bright moments at work this month. The photo attached to this entry is of the wonderful team that produced a very successful benefit event. We were praised extensively and I was sent the largest vase of cut flowers I've ever received. The difference in the two work examples is we did the benefit event pro bono! No money exchanged hands so the gratitude flowed.

Am I feeling sorry for myself? Not now, though I was on Saturday. I am grateful for the sunshine, the amazing green right in my back yard, the precious purple morning glories, oh, and gin and tonic with a twist of lime.
