Deal or no deal?

I painted, threw away truck loads of junk, deep cleaned, and even shampooed the carpets to get ready for a couple and their 6-year-old son to see the house. The woman liked it. The man said he'd go with his wife's decision. She felt bad because she didn't want to want the house more than he did. So, it's no deal.

They are going to low-ball a fixer-upper several blocks from here and pour at least $150,000 (according to their realtor) into the house to make it livable. The realtor told me the guy's a farmer and needs a project over the winter!

I'm not selling the house.

Funny thing is, I started out thinking I didn't want to sell. By the time the young couple went through the house a second time, I was looking for the perfect place to live. Downtown, uptown, condo, rental, I felt free and adventurous, without any rules. Suddenly life felt as though it was going to be simpler without this big house. I know that isn't true but it FELT like it.

So here I am, alone in my big house, having a glass of red wine and eating a baked potato. What could be more simple?
